Robbie Lawler has opened as the -250 betting favorite in his rematch against Nick Diaz.
Diaz has not fought since losing to Anderson Silva in 2015.
Lawler has lost four straight bouts including a one-sided decision to Neil Magny last year.
You must’ve heard the news by now.
The UFC is finalizing a scrap between Nick Diaz and Robbie Lawler.
If plans don’t miscarry, the fight will be the co-main event of UFC 266 on September 25th, which will be headlined by the UFC light heavyweight title bout between champion Jan Blachowicz and challenger Glover Teixeira.
Diaz vs Lawler is not a done deal, by any means. But both parties have agreed to the terms of the fight and only minors kinks are being ironed out by the parties before it can be called official.
Despite still being in the 90-95% completion stage, the best UFC betting sites have already opened the betting lines for that potentially explosive showdown. And according to online sportsbook BetOnline, Ruthless is the betting favorite to beat Diaz in a rematch of their UFC 47 bout seventeen years ago:

The opening lines aren’t surprising but are interesting because Diaz has not fought in six years while Lawler has lost four consecutive bouts.
Robbie Lawler (@Ruthless_RL) feels ‘no pressure’ about UFC losing skid, itching to return (via @MikeBohnMMA) https://t.co/xz7rFDpp6k

Lawler has won only one fight since losing the UFC welterweight title to Tyron Woodley at UFC 201 in 2016. He had dropped four consecutive bouts, including a one-sided decision to Neil Magny in his last outing in August 2020. Ruthless was supposed to fight Mike Perry last November but pulled out of the bout with an injury.
Now healthy again, Lawler recently said that there is no pressure despite the losing streak. But despite corporate guys like him and Cowboy Cerrone getting a longer leash than the ordinary UFC fighter, there’s no question that Ruthless is walking on shaky ground right now and a fifth consecutive defeat could mean the end of a brilliant career.
Ruthless won the UFC welterweight title by defeating Johny Hendricks in a thriller at UFC 181. He went on to successfully defend the belt twice in two Fight of the Year bouts against Rory MacDonald and Carlos Condit. But since losing to Woodley, Lawler has looked far from being his old self and could no longer summon that inner beast that made him The Ruthless One.
Dana Says Nick Return Likely in 2021
Dana White says Nick Diaz likely to make UFC return this year (by @antontabuena) https://t.co/yXLClfUPnl

Last month, UFC President Dana White told UFC Arabia in an interview that he believed that Nick Diaz is likely to return in 2021. Although White didn’t reveal the details, he talked about Nick’s return as “promising” after a serious talk with the fighter during a recent UFC event.
Diaz has not fought since losing to Anderson Silva at UFC 183 in 2015. That loss was overturned to a no-contest after both fighters failed their respective drug tests. Diaz was subsequently suspended by the Nevada Athletic Commission for 18 months and he disappeared from the limelight after his ban was over.
But Diaz returned to training in 2020 and was determined to make a comeback. However, White didn’t want to get too excited because it wasn’t the first time that Diaz said he would be coming back. But after his brother Nate recently returned after his own long hiatus, it was only a matter of time that Nick Diaz would follow. Now we have a date.
