A growing number of fans are now calling to see the Velasquez vs. Shevchenko fight take place soon.

Bellator’s female flyweight division is quickly becoming one of the best in all of MMA. A large number of elite flyweights now compete in Bellator, including the division’s champion, Juliana Velasquez. A growing number of fans now believe that Velasquez vs. Shevchenko is one of the biggest fights to make at 125 pounds.

Valentina Shevchenko has been dominating the UFC’s flyweight division for years. It seems as if there are no challengers left for her in the promotion. A bout with Bellator’s 125-pound champion would likely be one for the ages.

Here’s what could lead to this coming together.

Juliana Velasquez is Putting Her Title on the Line Today

Bellator’s first event of July has finally arrived. Tonight, the promotion will return to Uncasville, Connecticut with a stacked card headlined by Juliana Velasquez and Denise Kielholtz. Velasquez is looking to record the first defense of her flyweight title in this matchup.

There is a huge amount of hype surrounding this fight and the entire Bellator 262 card. Back in December of 2020, Velasquez captured Bellator’s flyweight belt by defeating Ilima-Lei Macfarlane. She has the skills to become a truly dominant champion and will begin that journey tonight.

It won’t be a walk in the park against Denise Kielholtz. The former kickboxing star has gone 6-2 during her Bellator career and has some of the best striking at flyweight. Kielholtz has also improved her grappling over the years and that could come in handy against a grappler like Juliana Velasquez.

The co-main event of Bellator 262 will feature Tyrell Fortune and Matt Mitrione. These two heavyweight fighters are known for their finishing instincts. Both are in serious need of a win in order to remain in contention for the Bellator heavyweight title.

There are several other exciting fights taking place on this card, including the bantamweight clash between Matheus Mattos and Cee Jay Hamilton. Fans around the world are now flocking to various online sports betting sites to bet on all of these incredible matchups!

The sky’s the limit for Juliana Velasquez. She has a real opportunity to break into the mainstream with a win tonight. Some are even calling for her to take on the UFC’s flyweight queen, Valentina Shevchenko.

Will Fans Ever Get to See Velasquez vs. Shevchenko?

MMA’s flyweight division is filled with tremendous fighters. Both the male and female 125-pound divisions are loaded with talent across all major promotions. In fact, some of the best pound-for-pound fighters in MMA currently fight at 125 pounds right now.

Juliana Velasquez is still fairly new in her MMA career. She has done nothing but win, however, going 11-0 in her career with five of those wins coming via stoppage. Many fans are curious to see how she fares against a kickboxer at the level of Denise Kielholtz.

Velasquez spoke to the media about her upcoming fight this week. At one point, she was asked about how a bout against Valentina Shevchenko might play out. The Brazilian flyweight certainly seems confident in her chances of winning that bout.

“Wow, I’ve asked myself that question countless times,” Velasquez said. “I really believe I would win. I won’t say, ‘Oh, I’d knock her out, I’d submit her,’ any of that. But I believe I would win. I believe my arm would be raised by the end of the fight… We’re both southpaws, she’s also a judoka who likes to strike. Her muay Thai is a level above mine, of course, but I believe my boxing is better than hers. And she likes to grapple a lot, right? I believe we would do an interesting fight, but I believe in my game. I don’t believe in invincibility, I don’t believe in iron lady. She’s a good athlete, I admire her a lot, but I don’t see [defeating her] as rocket science.”

If Juliana is serious about taking on Valentina Shevchenko in the future, she will need to fight out her UFC contract. The UFC has shown interest in signing the top Bellator fighters in the past. Juliana is developing a name for herself and many fans are expressing interest in seeing Velasquez vs. Shevchenko in the future.

Both fighters will need to continue winning in order for this super-fight to come together. Not long ago, the next challenger for Shevchenko was revealed to the public!

Lauren Murphy is Named as the Next Challenger for Valentina Shevchenko

Back in December of 2018, Valentina Shevchenko won the UFC’s flyweight title. She has since defended this belt five different times against elite competition. Valentina dominates her opponents and many analysts feel there are no real challenges left for her at 125 pounds.

That doesn’t mean the UFC will not stop searching for a viable opponent for the champion. Not long ago, news broke that Lauren Murphy will be next to face Shevchenko in the cage. These two women will square off at 266 on September 25. Many are now heading over to BetOnline to make their wagers on this exciting clash.

It should come as absolutely no surprise to see Shevchenko listed as the -1000 favorite in this fight. She is elite everywhere and has dominated virtually every fighter she has faced. Many feel Valentina will earn a win in this bout before finally moving back up to 135 pounds.

Lauren Murphy is a veteran of the fight game with a record of 15-4. She is riding a five-fight win streak and seems to be in her fighting prime. Still, she is coming into this bout as the +600 underdog and many feel she is fighting outside of her league in this bout.

A win for the champion here will further solidify her standing as one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the sport. As time goes on, more are calling for her to take on Amanda Nunes for the third time. Stay tuned for updates on her upcoming fight with Lauren Murphy as it draws closer.
