Ferreira started 2020 as the breakout fighter of the lightweight division but is winless in two bouts this year. Meanwhile, Dawson has streaked to five consecutive wins in the UFC Octagon and eight straight overall.
The event, headlined by Brazilian light heavyweight contenders Thiago Santos and Johnny Walker, still has no venue. A lightweight bout between Joe Solecki and Jared Gordon is also expected to happen in the event as will a women’s bantamweight showdown between veterans Bethe Correia and Karol Rosa.
Ferreira Submits Pettis

Ferreira opened 2020 on a high note by becoming the first fighter to submit former UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis at UFC 246. That victory was the sixth straight for Ferreira after opening his UFC career with a 2-2 record.
However, he did not fight again for the remainder of 2020 mainly due to the pandemic and returned only last February where he lost a narrow split decision to Beneil Dariush. At UFC Vegas 26 last May 8th, Ferreira suffered a TKO loss to Gregor Gillespie for his second straight defeat.
The former Legacy FC lightweight champion and the current no. 12 ranked lightweight in the UFC will be looking to get back on track but he will have to do it against one of the hottest fighters in the division.

Dawson is coming off a dramatic last second knockout win over Leonardo Santos at UFC Vegas 22 last March 20th in his first fight back at lightweight since 2015. Dawson was the favorite at the best UFC betting sites but Santos took him to deep waters before the stoppage with one second left in the bout.
The 27-year old former Contender Series alumnus has won his last eight bouts including six via stoppage. He is 5-0 inside the UFC octagon with stoppage wins in three out of his last four bouts since earning a UFC contract in 2017. Overall, Dawson has a record of 17-1 with four knockouts and 11 victories via submission.
With two Performance of the Night winners in his last four bouts, Dawson is one of the more exciting fighters in the UFC right now with his submission skills and aggressive style. However, he has yet to be tested inside the Octagon and Ferreira will be his first ranked opponent. A win over Ferreira though, will most certainly put Dawson in the rankings for the first time in his UFC career.
