In the main event, former WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder will try to play the spoiler’s role in the long-awaited title unification bout between Britain’s biggest boxing stars. Fury had already agreed to fight unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua in an undisputed heavyweight title bout on August 14 in Saudi Arabia.
However, barely after the bout was announced, Wilder won a legal arbitration that forced Fury to fight him first or pay a step-aside fee. Fury’s promoter Top Rank decided to book the Wilder trilogy right away so they could still fight Joshua later this year. But that’s if Fury wins.
According to the BetOnline App, Fury is still the – 265 betting favorite to beat Wilder who is currently pegged at + 205 at the same online sportsbook. However, given Wilder’s otherworldly punching power, the Bronze Bomber will always have that puncher’s chance which makes him a live underdog. The two fought to a controversial split draw in their first bout in December 2018. Fury knocked out Wilder inside 7 rounds in their rematch just before the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in February 2020.
