Gilbert Burns beat Stephen Thompson via unanimous decision at UFC 264 last Saturday night in Las Vegas.
After the win, Burns called out Jorge Masvidal, Leon Edwards, and Nate Diaz.
UFC President Dana White wasn’t impressed with Burns’ win over Wonderboy.
Gilbert Burns successfully bounced back from his loss to Kamaru Usman by defeating Stephen Thompson at UFC 264.
The UFC’s no. 2 ranked welterweight defeated former two-time title challenger Wonderboy via unanimous decision in a tactical but unimpressive performance. The bout was the co-headliner of the event but aside from Burns getting the easy “W”, it was an uninspiring performance that didn’t impress even the UFC boss.

After the fight Burns acknowledged that he isn’t in a position to demand a title shot because he recently got one at UFC 258 last February. However, Burns said that he’d love to fight either Jorge Masvidal, Leon Edwards on Nate Diaz.
Edwards recently defeated Nate Diaz in the latter’s first bout in over two years at UFC 263 just last month. Despite the loss, Diaz earned plenty of praise after nearly knocking out Edwards in the closing moments of the fight. Following the bout, White called Diaz “unbelievable” and even joked that he might be asking for a “six-rounder” next.
According to Burns, he’d like to go from fighting the NMF ( Nicest M-F*cker) in Thompson, now he’s ready to take on the BMF ( Baddest M-F*cker) referencing Masvidal who won the mythical BMF title by defeating Nate Diaz at UFC 244 in November 2019. However, Burns said that if he were to fight Gamebred, the fight would have to be on a PPV card and the Brazilan wants an “extra check” for fighting Masvidal.
Uncle Dana Not Impressed With Burns
What the hell man?

But while Burns has a good point in asking for a raise if he gets booked to a fight against Masvidal, he is not likely to get the salary increase because UFC President Dana White was not impressed with his victory over Wonderboy last Saturday.
During the UFC 264 post-event press conference, White was asked by one of the reporters about what thought of Burns’ performance. While Uncle Dana acknowledged that Burns did beat Thompson in the bout, the UFC boss told reporters that the “fight was not good”.
White was perhaps referring to the lack of action in that bout because Burns chose to grapple with Thompson rather than test his much-improved striking skills against one of the best stand-up fighters to ever grace the UFC’s welterweight division. Durinho took Wonderboy down three times in the bout and spent 7:13 of the fight controlling Thompson from top position but without doing any significant damage.
As a consolation for Durinho, The UFC president acknowledged that Masvidal and Edwards might be a good match-up for Burns but said that booking either fight isn’t in his mind right now. Looks like White still has to forget Saturday’s co-main event before remembering Burns again.
